News from the ANZAC Front
- AM and CW on air event on ANZAC Day
On ANZAC Day, 25th of April 2014, a group of Amateurs in North Queensland,
Tablelands Radio Group, are encouraging amateurs to operate on AM and CW
modes during the afternoon and evening of ANZAC Day as a mark of remembrance
to the servicemen and women who served our countries during time of conflict.

AM and CW were modes used by radio operators and signallers during WW2 and
in Korea, Malaysia and early on in Viet Nam so, by using those modes, it shows
that we Radio Amateurs are remembering them in our own special manner.
Hopefully our New Zealand cousins will join in the activity as the ANZAC
spirit is an integral part of both our countries.

This is NOT a contest and we simply ask Amateurs to switch to AM and CW to
experience the attributes of those old modes.

As regards frequencies its simply staying on the usual net frequencies BUT
change the mode.

If it's possible we ask that ex-Navy Ships, Military Museums, fortifications,
Warbirds,Radio museums etc etc be used to operate from.

On conclusion please send an article to Amateur Radio Magazine to show
others what you have done.

- Sellheim activation for AM and CW on ANZAC Day
Lyndall/VK4ZM and Gavin/VK4ZZ will be operating from the Burdekin Duck Caravan Park
at Sellheim during AM and CW on ANZAC Day. The Burdekin Duck is built on the grounds
where, during World War Two, Army troops were trained, including the 11th Infantry Brigade.
After the Japanese entered the war in 1941, Sellheim became a Reinforcement Depot and
troops from the Jungle Training Centre at Canungra were staged through to the
Atherton Tablelands and New Guinea. It was also the site for a Supply Depot and
Ammunitions Company and Army Workshop and housed a Convalescent Depot for the
116 Australian General Hospital.
Radio operations will take place close to the Sellheim Army Camp Memorial,
which commemorates those who passed through the camp between 1941 and 1982.
(thanks to Trove and the Australian War Memorial for most of the quoted information)

- Super Heritage activation for AM and CW on ANZAC Day
Keep your ear to the wireless - Ray/VK4NET and team are planning a Super Heritage
activation in the Townsville region for AM and CW on ANZAC Day.

News from Central Queensland

- Clairview Gathering
The Clairview Gathering is a yearly event where Radio Amateurs meet
at a spot on the coast between Rockhampton and Mackay to relax, talk
radio, re-establish acquaintances and participate in the world renown
Saturday Night Mega-Auction. There might even be some fox-hunting and
there will definitely be RAFFLES ! There is a rumour going about that
a large contingent of Nutty Campers from the south will be on site.
The Gathering is one of the main revenue raisers for the
Rockhampton and District Amateur Radio Club Inc and
Mackay Amateur Radio Association.

It happens in 2014 during the first weekend in May from
Friday evening 2nd to Sunday morn 4th May.
Those who are keen to chill out completely in one of the most relaxing
and laid back venues in the cosmos arrive earlier and stay later.

The Clairview Gathering is so popular that on-site accommodation is
close to being booked out already, so if you want to go you will have to be
very quick. Otherwise there are nice camp, caravan or motor-home sites available too.
News from Kooka who overnighted there on Monday 7th Oct is that
Sites 38 (closest to highway) to 49 have already been booked by Hams.

- VK4RAT UHF Repeater Frequency Change - your help needed
If you live in the Townsville area and have the capability to receive
UHF frequencies then theTARCinc wants you !
As part of a planned change of frequency assignment for the
VK4RAT UHF Voice Repeater at Mount Stuart, reception monitoring needs
to take place on the recommended frequencies to ensure that they
are relatively free from interference from other services in the area.

theTARCinc have voted to change the current frequency assignment of
output 438.225MHz input 433.225MHz to move the repeater away from
the UHF Low Interference Potential Devices band. This band seems
to getting more and more populated by LIPD devices that propagate
far beyond their designed range of operation.
So if you live in the area and can monitor these input and output
frequencies and occasionally send in reports, then the techie dudes
at theTARCinc will be eternally grateful !

QTAC recommended frequencies to monitor
- mainly during weekdays when interference activity seems to be greatest ...
Repeater Input frequencies 434.800 434.825 434.875 434.950MHz
Repeater Output frequencies 439.800 439.825 439.875 439.950MHz

Send your reports to theTARCinc Secretary on email
[qrm] vk4wit [at] wia [dot] org [dot] au [qrm]
making sure to convert the countermeasures first.

Reports:
09/02/2014 to 16/02/2014 Snow/VK4ME Kirwan 434.800 no interference
17/02/2014 to 23/02/2014 Snow/VK4ME Kirwan 434.825 no interference
24/02/2014 to  2/03/2014 Snow/VK4ME Kirwan 434.875 no interference
 3/02/2014 to  9/03/2014 Snow/VK4ME Kirwan 434.950 no interference
