W100AW - celebrating the centenary of the American Radio Relay League ARRL
A special ARRL bulletin (ARLX013) reports:
"The FCC has authorized the Maxim Memorial Station W1AW to also use the call sign
W100AW during 2014, the ARRL's centennial year.
The "W1AW WAS" operations throughout 2014 from each of the 50 states will use W1AW, not W100AW.
Bulletins and code practice transmissions during 2014 also will still use W1AW.
Contacts with W100AW will be worth 100 points in the ARRL Centennial QSO Party.

News from North Queensland


- another Mount Stuart Working Bee
The last Mount Stuart working bee had only one bloke show up -
poor Snow/VK4ME was a bit lonely however he did get to drop some things off
for the next working bee. So, be up the hill at the TARC Mount Stuart
Repeater Site from 10am Saturday 1st November to give a hand with - amongst
other things - finishing the Hut Antenna Support Upgrade project, installing
the new VK4RAT VHF Repeater Transceiver, putting the VK4RAT ATV Repeater exciter
back into place plus lots lots more. Snow says to bring drink and a cut lunch
for the day and come along either to do things or to supervise.




- TARC Management Meeting this Tuesday
The Management Meeting of the Townsville Amateur Radio Club
Inc happens this Tuesday 7th of October from 7-30pm at the Club Rooms
perched atop the SES HQ Green Street West End.
Make sure you bring along something for the Show and Tell session.

- TARC does the TCC International Mens Day Employee Expo
Members from The Townsville Amateur Radio Club Inc will be putting on
a portable display of Amateur Radio by invitation of the Townsville City
Council for the TCC International Mens Day Employee Expo being held in conjunction
with Crocs Basketball training at the RSL Stadium, Murray Sporting Complex
on Wednesday 12th November 2014.
The battery powered display will be setting up from 6am to 6-45am then exhibiting from
7am to 2pm.The pack up will happen from 2pm to 2-45pm.
Anyone wanting to come along and help with the set up and packup or
help with the exhibit then please contact Display Co-ordinator

- TARC Communications Support

There is a full programme of Communications Support events that you can get involved with
and have some radio fun !

Whitsunday Region Endurance Riders Association Inc Euri Gold Farm Endurance Rides.
All the rides happen on the verdant slopes of Euri Gold Farm, just out of Merinda
north of Bowen North Queensland.
You are able to camp out early at Ride Base from Friday onwards.
The ride starts up on Saturday afternoon and will mainly run into the evening.
Your chance to get out into some lovely countryside, set up camp with a portable station
or three and communicate in a relaxing fashion as the horsies and riders go by, day and night.
Hey Mackay and Bowen horsie operators - you can join in the fun too !
Canteen, hot water, bbq din din plus brekkie and mod cons available at Ride Base.
Fri 3rd to Mon 6th April - WRERA Euri Gold Easter Endurance Ride Carnival

TCAC King Of The Hill Hillclimb on the Mount Stuart.
A chance to get out in the field and mix your radio with high speed organized autosports.
Operators needed to man the Start and Flying Finish positions on the Mount Stuart Road.
Safety and Time Control communications and your chance to get a CAMS Officials Licence.
7-30am start, a free burger or steak sandwich at lunchtime, finish by 3-30pm

Kennedy Region Scouts Nighthawk activity.
Your chance to make a real difference and show the youth of today how useful
Amateur Radio can be. Teams tracking and a chance to set up portable at a spot
you would not normally go to. Arrive at Nighthawk HQ near Pallarenda around 3pm on Saturday,
then go to your checkpoint along the beach or in the Town Common for a night of
easy operating in the field tracking the progress of Nighthawk teams, with some in-flight
entertainment as you observe  youth members try to impress the Scout Leader judges with finesse
in their activity.

Queensland State Endurance Riding Championships
Comms support for this event, happening in the Wandecla-Ravenshoe region on the weekend of
29th and 30th of August, is being co-ordinated by the Tablelands Radio and Electronics Club Inc.
It is possible that dudes from further south will be called upon to go and help TREC with
the big 160km ride event. More details as they come to hand, however meantime who would like
to go along if the call comes in ?

- theTARCinc Annual General Meeting 2014
The Annual General Meeting of The Townsville Amateur Radio Club will be
happening on Sunday November 23rd 2014.
Whoop-de-doo you say - but wait, what is that delicious smell you can
detect from 10 weeks into the future ?
Thats what it is !
The event is starting with a pancake breakfast from 7am to 8-30am
with the goop made from Lexs secret receipe, slightly modified by
Rob/VK4RB and then slightly further modified and put together by Kooka/VK4FRJG
and cooked up by the Iron Faraday Cage Chefs. Yummmie !
After the sumptuous pancake feast the nuts and bolts of the
Annual General Meeting will take place.

your cozzies if you want to go for a swim, some treasure for the Monster Auction,
lots of small change for your Monster Auction and Pressie Auction purchases and your appetites -

- TARC Australia Day Long Weekend Family Radio Camp
Happening from Friday afternoon 23rd to Monday lunchtime 26th January 2015 at :
Girl Guides Association of Queensland Campsite and Training Centre,
46-56 Toolakea Beach Road, Bluewater.

AX4WIT will be on-air from the camp to provide directions and contact.
Assessors on site for exams and tutoring. Foundation Manuals and 2015 Callbooks
available for sale onsite.

Activities will include:
Cooking of the dampers and other bush recipes
(bring your camp oven or use the comprehensive kitchen facilities plus bring
your favourite recipes and ingredients),
Raising of the Flag
(and try to remember all the words to the National Anthem),
Throwing of the Infernal Thong (release that pent up stress!)
Swimming (bring yer cozzies and inflatables for swimming in the Bluewater Creek),
Portable demonstrations of computer-based radio comms,
Bushwalking along the well marked trekking trails.
plus much, much more.
Don’t get the wrong idea though, this long weekend will be a VERY relaxing one –
and its an all-weather event !

Cost of a powered camp site or a bed in Bluewater House is $13 per person per night.
Day visitors pay $6.50 per person.
The Master and Romana wont be there so the Leaders Room is up for grabs.
You need to supply your own condiments such as salt and pepper and also bring
your own washing up detergent and tea towels.
For those also using the Bluewater House accommodation you need to bring your
own pillow and linen.

Colin/VK4MCC is selling or swapping his Hi-Q Screwdriver Antenna.
It has 2.5 / 80 Auto tune but has no base or controller. Colin has
made a Switch to operate the antenna up and down and Colin assures that it
is in good working order. The only blemish is a crack at the top which has

a MFJ Versa Tuner II - Model MFJ-945 that may be of interest to readers of this dispatch.

- Curly Wind Season is over for 2014, but still be prepared. Whilst things are quiet
  its a good time to make stock up, charge batteries and get ready for action !

- WICEN NET
WICEN Queensland holds a net every Sunday on 7075kHz from 8-30am (2230UTC)

The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
If conditions are poor on 7MHz, net control might move to around 3600kHz
depending on how pliable the net operators are.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!

Try also the pre-WICEN net on 20metres
John/VK4LJ Gold Coast conducts the call-in on the
ANZA Net frequency 14183kHz from 08-10am (2210UTC)
