VE4XSI - commemorating the delivery of 100 Canadian Huskys to Sir Ernest Shackleton
by Sigurjon Isfeld following an overland trek from Gimli, Manitoba to Montreal and

W100AW - celebrating the centenary of the American Radio Relay League ARRL
A special ARRL bulletin (ARLX013) reports:
"The FCC has authorized the Maxim Memorial Station W1AW to also use the call sign
W100AW during 2014, the ARRL's centennial year.
The "W1AW WAS" operations throughout 2014 from each of the 50 states will use W1AW, not W100AW.
Bulletins and code practice transmissions during 2014 also will still use W1AW.
Contacts with W100AW will be worth 100 points in the ARRL Centennial QSO Party.

HO100CANAL - commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal.
Active from 19th April to 15th August on 160 to 10metres CW, SSB, PSK, RTTY.
On August 15th, the Panamanians will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the
inaugural transit through the Panama Canal.
This activity is organised by amateurs of the Republic of Panama.
The QSL Manager for the operation is HP1AVS, some of the operators

- Central Highlands ARC AGM Weekend
The famous and popular Central Highlands Amateur Radio
Club AGM weekend at Camp Fairbairn, approx 20km south of Emerald, is on
from 4pm Friday 26th to Midday Sunday 28th September 2014.
Caravaners please book into Lake Maraboon Holiday Village, as soon as possible.
Sleeping on site in the dorms ? Get your numbers in as soon as possible.
CHARC Secretary Helen needs to know from you if you are attending,
so she and Steve/VK4SM can plan catering for the acclaimed Saturday Night Gastronomic Feed Up,
arrange the troops to get enough chairs and treasure together for the
coveted AGM Monster Auction, divvy up the available beds available in the on site
dormitory and ensure there is enough grub for the Sunday Recovery Breakfast and Saturday
Sausage Sizzle. It will be a good idea to bring your own linen and cutlery !
All you need to do is lift a digit or two and let Helen know that you will be there.
Do not wait until the last minute as you might miss out on overnight accommodation.

Not going to the Lighthouse weekend but want to get into some radio action
and help energise the VK4KG Memorial RAAF Museum station for the Remembrance Day Contest ?

- TARC does the Lighthouse Lightship Weekend
ARRR!   MATEYS !
The Townsville Amateur Radio Club Inc. will activate the Cape Cleveland Light
(ILLW Number AU0045) from 16 to 17 August as part of the International Lighthouse Lightship
Weekend.
It will be a great weekend full of relaxed operating with the challenge of deploying
HF VHF and UHF antennae in a remote environment and talking to stations at other
lighthouses around Australia and the world. There are plans to operate in the RD Contest
and communicate regularly with the VK4KG Memorial RAAF Museum Station as well. 
Hosts Sue and Ray Boundy are keen to support the activity to highlight the heritage
of Lighthouses throughout the world.
Pristine surroundings away from the hustle and bustle with a > unique view < of Townsville. 
Spot the Whales, dugongs, sea turtles, dolphins plus much more ! Migaloo is out there
and might be seen. Is your appetite ravenous ? Bring your families - bring your friends !

You need to bring your own food, drink and refrigeration for
Saturday Lunch, Saturday Dinner, Sunday Breakfast at the site
and prepare Sunday Lunch to be had on the barge during the return voyage.
There are a limited number of bunks available in the machine shed however
if you can bring your own stretchers or swags that would be helpful.
No Hot Water unless you can bribe Captain Ray into firing up the EPU.

Package options -
Salty Sea-Crew Over The Seas Package
$60 per person return - includes passage via mighty barge Hercules, heavy gear transport at site,
facilities usage.
8am Saturday gather at the Coast Guard Boat Ramp (parking is in short supply) for a pickup
by the Hercules between 8am and 8-30am.
Return boarding Sunday around 10am (or later - depending on tide) for the journey back
to Townsville.

Red Baron Seaplane Excitement Package
Subject to lots of things like wind and waves, somewhere to disembark.  
Either swim to and from seaplane to beach or have a lend of Steve's blow up board.
$300 each one way.  Max total passenger weight is 180kg.  Max individual passenger is 125kg.
plus $20 additional per person for heavy gear transport at site and facilities usage.

Whitsunday Region Endurance Riders Association Inc Euri Gold Farm Endurance Rides.
All the rides happen on the verdant slopes of Euri Gold Farm, just out of Merinda
north of Bowen North Queensland.
You are able to camp out early at Ride Base from Friday onwards.
The ride starts up on Saturday afternoon and will mainly run into the evening.
Your chance to get out into some lovely countryside, set up camp with a portable station
or three and communicate in a relaxing fashion as the horsies and riders go by, day and night.

Kennedy Region Scouts Nighthawk activity.
Your chance to make a real difference and show the youth of today how useful
Amateur Radio can be. Teams tracking and a chance to set up portable at a spot
you would not normally go to. Arrive at Nighthawk HQ near Pallarenda around 3pm on Saturday,
then go to your checkpoint along the beach or in the Town Common for a night of
easy operating in the field tracking the progress of Nighthawk teams, with some in-flight
entertainment as you observe  youth members try to impress the Scout Leader judges with finesse
in their activity.

SES Townsville/Thuringowa Division Joint Exercise.
A golden opportunity to gain experience in operating with Counter-Disaster
organisations in preparation for the support role that Radio Amateurs provide
during times of disaster.
The exercise will involve some operators on foot in forested, rocky, grassy,
sandy areas, mobile in vehicles and operating out of at least two base stations
that will be set up for the event. Possibility of an overnight camp-out.

- Cardwell Gathering October Long Weekend
Do you remember the FNNQARG! ? Held for years in June at Mission Beach, South Mission Beach,
Kurrimine Beach and Cardwell some hefty Cyclones put a stop to this famous gathering
for a while - but now it is reborn.
The Cardwell Gathering will be taking place from Friday afternoon October 3rd to
Monday morning October 6th at the Cardwell Beachcomber Motel and Tourist Park.
This is a call to all Hams and support crews and anyone interested in taking up
the hobby of Amateur Radio to spend a long weekend in paradise
- meeting up with friends

- catch up on new techniques

- Curly Wind Season is over for 2014, but still be prepared. Whilst things are quiet
  its a good time to make stock up, charge batteries and get ready for action !

- WICEN NET
WICEN Queensland holds a net every Sunday on 7075kHz from 8-30am (2230UTC)

The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
If conditions are poor on 7MHz, net control might move to around 3600kHz
depending on how pliable the net operators are.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!

Try also the pre-WICEN net on 20metres
John/VK4LJ Gold Coast conducts the call-in on the
ANZA Net frequency 14183kHz from 08-10am (2210UTC)
