News from the Anzac Front
- AM and CW on air event on Anzac Day
Looking for a way to commemorate Anzac Day on amateur radio ?
Apart from participating in the Harry Angel Memorial Sprint on the 24th April from
1000 to 1146 UTC on 80metres, there is another, more relaxing way on the day.
Several nets will be run on 40 and 80 metres using AM or CW to commemorate
Anzac Day.
Participants in the Afternoon Net on 7093kHz from 0600UTC on Anzac Day
will be using using Amplitude Modulation, one of the two modes of modulation used by Anzacs during World War 2, the Korean War, the Malaysian conflict and insurrection and the early part of the Viet Nam war.
Likewise the North Queensland Net on 3605.4kHz from 0930UTC on Anzac Day
will also have its participants using AM.
There are lots of other nets and operators keen to be onboard with AM or CW for
this special way to further remember fallen Anzacs.
If you want to join in or find out more about this fine Anzac Day event please contact
Mike Patterson VK4MIK, on vk4mike@yahoo.com.au

- Clareview Gathering
The Clareview Gathering is a yearly event where Radio Amateurs meet
at a spot on the coast between Rockhampton and Mackay to relax, talk
radio, re-establish acquaintances and participate in the world renown
Saturday Night Mega-Auction.
It is one of the main revenue raisers for the
Rockhampton and District Amateur Radio Club Inc and
Mackay Amateur Radio Club.
It happens in 2010 during the Long Weekend on the 1st and 2nd of May.
The Clareview Gathering is so popular that on-site accommodation is
booked out years in advance, so if you want to go you will have to
either camp, caravan or motor-home over the weekend.
There is also talk about a Saturday mega-lunch happening with
mega-burgers at the Burger Hut Kalarka (10km south of Clareview).

News from North Queensland
- Help Mike get on his Bike
News in that dashing aero-paramedic, avid dx-er and all round good guy
Mike VK4MSA is currently in training for the Big W Townsville to Cairns
Charity Bike Ride. The ride leaves Townsville on Thursday 29th July
and finishes in Cairns on Saturday 31st July, along the way raising funds for
and the public profile of The Childrens Cancer Institute of Australia.
Mike has the entry fee all saved up but has to raise at least 500 dollars
for charity before he can participate in the ride - and time is running out !
So, can you help out a fellow ham who is doing something good ?
Contact Mike VK4MSA next time you hear him on air or when he is next
saving your life in a car wreck and let him know that you can support him
in the ride.
- TARC Social Evening this Tuesday
This Tuesday March 16th the TARC Social Evening will be happening
at the Club Rooms atop SES HQ Green Street West End from
7-30pm. Come along and lend a helping hand to put the magazine of renown,
Back-scatter together and socialise with fellow hams. Everyone welcome !
- TARC to do John Moyle Field Day from Bluewater
theTARCinc will be energising callsign VK4WIT in a couple of weeks time
from the field during the 2010 John Moyle Field Day, with a station located at
Bluewater Scout Den - just a short 20minutes drive north along the Bruce Highway
from the Thuringowa CBD.
Camp out over the weekend or trundle along that mobile home or caravan
you have been hiding or even pitch the li-lo or swag in the Den.
Turn up for a day or an evening and experience field operations running on
emergency power under the big sheltered Bluewater Scout Den.
Bring your batteries, generators, radios and field antennae for a great weekend
out in the bush socialising, swimming in nearby Bluewater Creek, checking the pots
for Redclaw and, oh yes - doing some radio operating during the Contest.
VK4WIT will be at the Den from Friday evening March 19th until
Sunday lunchtime March 21st.
Contact TARC Contest Manager Richard VK4FRJG on 0400339543
for further details or let him know you are going along.
