CHARC AGM 2016 Results
A BIG thank you to everyone who came to the AGM weekend.
There was lots of fun had and it was great catching up friends.

The meeting thanked Helen/VK4FHEL for the years she had put in
as Secretary. Fear not folks, Helen will be co-ordinating CHARC events
and helping out with other jobs as part of her role as a Committee Member.
Likewise, Roy, Wazza and Laurie will be very busy helping Steve out
with the Technical Officer job, as the Club runs and maintains the most
expansive linked repeater network in Australia.

Thanks to those who donated prizes for the Multi Draw Raffle & the
Mystery Prizes for the MONSTER Auction.
Congratulations to those who won the Money Board and prizes in the
Multi-Prize Raffle.

- Clairview Gathering
The Clairview Gathering is a yearly event where Radio Amateurs meet
at a spot on the coast between Rockhampton and Mackay to relax, talk
radio, re-establish acquaintances and participate in the world renown
Saturday Night Mega-Auction. There might even be some fox-hunting and
there will definitely be RAFFLES !
The Gathering is one of the main revenue raisers for the
Rockhampton and District Amateur Radio Club Inc and
Mackay Amateur Radio Association.

It happens in 2017 from
Friday evening 28th April to Monday morn 1st May.
Those who are keen to chill out completely in one of the most relaxing
and laid back venues in the cosmos arrive earlier and stay later.

- Central Highlands ARC Theresa Creek Campout
The Theresa Creek Campout will be happening from Friday 9th until Sunday 11th June 2017
Theresa Creek Dam is located 22 km southwest of Clermont in Central Queensland, with bitumen access all the way
to the boat ramp plus 2 boat ramps to choose from.
This is the perfect dam for those that like swimming, canoeing, water skiing, fishing, or just relaxing and watching
time pass you by.
Theresa Creek Dam is well worth a visit, with a couple of toilet blocks, HOT showers, shaded picnic tables,
bins, BBQ’s, 6 x 6 camping shelters and plenty of spots to access the dam for land based anglers and red claw hunters.
Red claw crayfish are the main target species in the dam however; you can also chase Barramundi, Golden Perch,
Eel-Tailed Catfish, Sleepy Cod, Silver Perch and Bony Bream. Permits for fishing are required through DPI.
Sorry no EFTPOS as phone coverage is not real great. Pets welcome with strict rules.
NO powered sites as the site is a camping ground and - remember - the site is a glass free area.
Campfires are permitted. Camping fees are $15 per couple/per night kids free and there are no bookings,
first come first camped. Generators are permitted within specified hours.
The CHARC crew usually camp as you first drive in on the right opposite the first set of toilet and shower blocks.

- Central Highlands ARC AGM Weekend
The famous and popular Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club AGM weekend
will be happening at Lake Maraboon Holiday Village, approx 25km southwest of Emerald,
from 2pm Friday 22nd to 10am Sunday 24th September 2017.
Some hams and support crews will be staying a bit earlier or later at the fabulous lakeside
venue renown for a great climate, friendly management and buckets o redclaw for the catching.
The venue is just down the road from the impressive Fairbairn Dam and the local model aircraft
flight centre.
There will be great chances to catch up with hams and support crews from all over the country
who attend to get involved the only fundraising activity CHARC has to finance the licencing,
maintenance and expansion of the Central Highlands Linked Repeater System, analogue, digital and APRS.
Experience the raffles, the famous Money Board, gastronomic feed ups (with dessert) and the Mega-Auction
held in the huge camp kitchen shelter.
Make sure you bring treasure to the Auction and if possible also include a mysteriously wrapped item
for the Mystery part of the auction.

- theTARCinc Cardwell Gathering October Long Weekend
The Cardwell Gathering will be taking place from this Friday afternoon September 30th to
this Monday morning October 3rd at the Cardwell Beachcomber Motel and Tourist Park.

Watch out for Ray and Wendy’s Lucky Numbers games held throughout the weekend
and make sure you participate in one or more of the games held during the weekend.
Without much effort you could be in line for a prize !

- Wicket – the Famous North vs South Cricket Match
The North vs South Cricket Match has happened for many years now. Originally part of FNNQARG!
held at Mission, South Mission, Kurrimine and Cardwell Beaches and named Wicket by Mr Aoki
(former General Manager of ICOM Australia), this Cricket Match is for young and old.
The play is undertaken not too seriously, there are Umpires, Video Umpires, Radio Umpires and judges
of fact (some who play in the game), plus lots of spectators to egg the players on.
Runners are available to do the hard slog for those whose pegs don’t perambulate as well as they used to.
Held against the picturesque backdrop of Hinchinbrook Island in the bracing breeze from Rockingham Bay,
it is as close to having fun in Paradise that you will ever have.

- Shazza’s Trivia Challenge
Reckon you know lots about things - well you are about to find out how much ! Following the success of
last years Jeckel’s Australiana Trivia Challenge, Shazza XYL VK4ME is running this years Trivia Challenge
with questions coming from a knowledge pool as wide as our big brown land! Winning Team wins a prize.
Happening from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday 1st October under the big tarps at Site 80.

Whitsunday Region Endurance Riders Association Inc Euri Gold Farm Endurance Rides.
All the rides happen on the verdant slopes of Euri Gold Farm, just out of Merinda
north of Bowen North Queensland.
You are able to camp out early at Ride Base from Thursday onwards.
The ride starts up on Friday afternoon and will mainly run into the evening.
Your chance to get out into some lovely countryside, set up camp with a portable station
or three and communicate in a relaxing fashion as the horsies and riders go by, day and night.

Kennedy Region Scouts Nighthawk activity.
Your chance to make a real difference and show the youth of today how useful
Amateur Radio can be. Teams tracking and a chance to set up portable at a spot
you would not normally go to. Arrive at Nighthawk HQ around 3pm on Saturday,
then go to your checkpoint for a night of easy operating in the field tracking the progress
of Nighthawk teams, with some in-flight entertainment as you observe youth members try to impress
the Scout Leader judges with finesse in their activity.

- TARC Clubrooms Working Bee
The next TARC Clubrooms Working Bee will be happening on Saturday 8th October from 10am.
Come along and help get the rooms ready for the Cyclone Season and help tweak the antenna systems.
For those who cannot get out at night it is a golden opportunity to see what has been done at the
Club Rooms and you will even get a chance to see the secret trap door !
A Sausage Sizzle will happen at lunchtime to reward the workers.

personnel to participate in this years world-wide event,
the largest event on the Scout, Guide and Amateur Radio Calendar.
Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet is happening
in 2015 on the weekend of 15th and 16th October.

- TARC does the TCC International Mens Day Employee Expo
Members from The Townsville Amateur Radio Club Inc will be putting on
a portable display of Amateur Radio by invitation of the Townsville City
Council for the TCC International Mens Day Employee Expo being held at the RSL Stadium,
Murray Sporting Complex on Wednesday 9th November 2016.
The battery powered display will be setting up from 6am to 6-45am then exhibiting from
8am to 2pm.The pack up will happen from 2pm to 2-45pm.

The Annual General Meeting of The Townsville Amateur Radio Club will be
happening on Sunday November 27th 2016.
Whoop-de-doo you say - but wait, what is that delicious smell you can
detect from 3 weeks into the future ?
Thats what it is !
The event is starting with a pancake breakfast from 7am to 8-30am
with the goop made from Lexs secret receipe, slightly modified by
Rob/VK4RB and then slightly further modified and put together by og/VK4ZZ
and cooked up by the Iron Faraday Cage Chefs. Yummmie !
After the sumptuous pancake feast the nuts and bolts of the
Annual General Meeting will take place.

- TARC Monster Xmas Lights Tour
Get out your Santa Hats, flashy pins and Christmas Costumes and get ready for a
magical mystery tour of the light fantastic !
The famous TARC Monster Xmas Lights Tour is on again, happening Friday evening December 16th.
Its a Drive Yourself Dazzling Spectacular and all mobile shack chariots will need
to monitor 146.5MHz during the tour to hear instructions from the guide vehicle.
If you do not have a 2metre transceiver in your vehicle - don't worry as a handheld
will be lent to you.
The Tour will start from >a place in Townsville<, gathering by 7pm and then leaving when
it is dark enough.
Be sure to pack an esky with plenty of cool water and cool bananas as the tour will be
happening in a dehydrating climate!
MXLT organiser Gavin VK4ZZ, with help from stage surveyors, is currently plotting
a way around the City of Townsville (protected by the Powerpuff Girls).
Are you a local HAM putting on a light spectacular ? Have you spotted an outstanding display ?

- TARC Australia Day Long Week Family Radio Camp
Happening from Wednesday afternoon 25th to Sunday afternoon 29th January 2017 at :
Girl Guides Association of Queensland Campsite and Training Centre,
46-56 Toolakea Beach Road, Bluewater.

AX4WIT will be on-air from the camp to provide directions and contact.
Assessors on site for exams and tutoring.

Activities will include:
Cooking of the dampers and other bush recipes
(bring your camp oven or use the comprehensive kitchen facilities plus bring
your favourite recipes and ingredients),
Raising of the Flag
(and try to remember all the words to the National Anthem),
Throwing of the Infernal Thong (release that pent up stress!)
Swimming (bring yer cozzies and inflatables for swimming in the Bluewater Creek),
Portable demonstrations of computer-based radio comms,
Bushwalking along the well marked trekking trails.
plus much, much more.
Don’t get the wrong idea though, this long weekend will be a VERY relaxing one –
and its an all-weather event !

Cost of a powered camp site or a bed in Bluewater House is $15 per person per night.
Day visitors pay $7 per person.
The Leaders Room has up for grabs.
You need to supply your own condiments such as salt and pepper and also bring
your own washing up detergent and tea towels.
For those also using the Bluewater House accommodation you need to bring your
own pillow and linen.

- TARC does the 2017 Defence Welcome and Information Expo
theTARCinc will be involved with the 2017 Defence Welcome and Information Expo
run by the Townsville office of Defence Community Organisation North Queensland
and happening on Saturday 4th February at RSL Stadium Murray Complex from 10am to 1pm.
TARCadians will be drawing on expertise gained from participation in other Expos
at the complex to show Defence members and their families currently residing
or new to the region some of the aspects of the wonderful world of Amateur Radio.
The club is hoping to demonstrate the hobby through a mixture of static, dynamic and
interactive displays, with members experienced in many facets of the hobby able
to provide meaninful answers and guidance for those attending the Expo.
Display will be put in place from 8-30am to 9-30am and packed away from 1pm to 2pm.

- TARC does the John Moyle Field Day 2017
Happening from Friday afternoon 17th to Sunday lunch 19th March 2017 at :
Burdekin Duck Roadhouse and Caravan Park,
Flinders Highway Sellheim. Phone 07-47873587.

Portable operation is the go so make sure you bring plenty of batteries
and whisper quiet generators if you can.

to get there:
approx. 111km from Cluden Park intersection Townsville.
Trundle along the Flinders Highway towards Charters Towers until you cross
the mighty Burdekin River at the Macrossan Bridge and start to head up the hill to Sellheim.
Keep an eye out to the right and get ready to turn in to the Roadhouse.

approx. 15km from the Flinders Hwy Heavy Vehicle intersection Charters Towers.
Trundle along the Flinders Highway towards Townsville. Slow down as you get into Sellheim.
Keep an eye out to the left and get ready to turn into the Roadhouse..

Upon arrival pull up near the Roadhouse and go in to find out where your site is.

The Park features powered and unpowered caravan and camp sites and it is planned
to set up the JMFD station in the unpowered paddock closest to Charters Towers.
The Roadhouse is renown for generous and yummy meals and is also well stocked for
basic grocery needs. Amenities are good and clean and there is good mobile internet
access via 3G.

The Park is situated on the edge of what used to be the Sellheim Army Camp and the
memorial is within easy walking distance. The Burdekin River is a bit further away,
a short car ride gets you there really quick.

There are a number of nice high eucalypt trees available to support HF dipoles and the
site has all weather access. Should we be lucky enough to be marooned if the Burdekin River
floods then we will still be very well off.

Logging for the event will be done by a dude that can type using a 12V powered
netbook running the latest version of VKCL, there will be lots of antennae lofting
and tweaking, operating in a location that can be used what ever weather is happening
plus plenty of chances to kick back and socialise.

The traditional Saturday Night feedup at the Roadhouse will be on again - attendance
numbers needed.

There will also be available on site training and assessment services should you feel
like getting or upgrading your licence.

Cost of a powered site with 2pob daily is $22
whilst the cost of an unpowered site with 2pob daily is $12

WICEN Queensland holds a net every Sunday on 7075kHz from 8-30am (2230UTC)

The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
If conditions are poor on 7MHz, net control might move to around 3600kHz
depending on how pliable the net operators are.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!
