North Queensland Amateur Radio Convention
Registered Events
The following list contains events that only those who have registered for the Convention can
attend or actively participate.
Meet & Greet and Official opening

Official Opening of the 19th North Queensland Amateur Radio Convention.
Richard Goodhew VK4FRJG has graciously accepted to open the 2009 Convention.
Richard is well known throughout the Amateur Radio fraternity in the north and far north
being one of the more active operators on nets and event. Richard has been a member of
TARC for many years before being one of the first people in the region to obtain
an Australian Amateur Radio Foundation Licence and is also very well known in the
Scouting movement being a leader for many years.
Richard is currently TARCs JOTA Co-ordinator and also helps run the Gnarly Net
many days.
Richard will open the North Queensland Amateur Radio Convention
sometime during the evening.
Registration Check-in
9am to 10-30am Saturday 19th September
James Cook University Douglas Campus
University Hall - Endeavour Room
The check-in table will be manned to allow you to pick up your Convention
name badges, meal tickets and the Convention Goodies Grab Bag for
your party. If you do not make it to Registration Check-in by 10-30am
then hunt down Gavin VK4ZZ (the fellow with the APRS backpack) somewhere
on the Convention grounds.
Hobby Display Contest Entry and Display
Entries - 9am to 12pm Saturday19th September
Display - 9am to 1pm Saturday 19th September
Judging - 1pm to 1-30pm Saturday 19th September

"Home-brewing" equipment and being able to craft objects
are two very important requisites for the hobby of Amateur Radio
and every Convention features a competition to see who builds or
crafts the best widget.
There will be sections for Technical and Craft home brew items
(there might even be a liquid home brew entry or two)
and several age grades of exhibits.
Registered attendees can enter any section of the competition
and submit any number of items.
Entrants must be on hand during judging to answer any questions
the judges might need to ask.
The judges for the competition this year are -

Craft Section - Trisha Reibelt and Claire Dickson
the Ladies Group Excursion
Leave 2pm Saturday 19th September
from JCU Douglas Campus and travel
to the Townsville Museum for a guided tour of the fascinating history of Townsville.
Hosted by Wendy Schinkel and Ray VK4NET.
Travel back into town by 5pm
All registered YL's XYL's, OM's and XOM's invited along.

The Convention Banquet will not only have great food but will
also include such things as prize and awards presentations,
and discussion sessions with
- Bill Horner VK4FW, President of the Oceania DX Group Inc
will open the lid on how to organise a world class DX-Pedition.
Bill's latest event was the very successful DX-Pedition to
Lord Howe Island during April 2009.
The presentation of the Ken Robertson VK4KT Memorial Award
by Judy Robertson to a Radio Amateur who, during the past 2 years
has stood out in furthering experimentation and education in the
field of radio technology will be one of the highlights of the evening.
Very seldom does our hobby take time out to acknowledge outstanding
efforts of those few individuals amongst us who have both the
technical understanding and educational skills to help others go further
in the hobby.
The Famous NQ AR Convention Monster Auction
from 12-30pm sharp Sunday 20th September

University Hall - BBQ Grounds
Guaranteed to have more monsters per metre than any other
ham radio auction in the WORLD !
The TARC tarps and treasure will be assembled from 7am Sunday morning
(you are invited to help trailer and stack the treasure) and you should not be
tardy for the 12-30pm auction start, lest you miss out on TREASURE !
Those who have registered for the Convention will be able to partake in a
sumptuous sit down lunch inside University Hall prior to the auction.
Be sure to bring your money with you as the quality of the treasure
will ensure brisk bidding !

Entry to the Buffet area will be by way of the meal tickets you receive
when you attend Registration Check-in.
Previous attendees to the Conventions have raved about the quality
and variety offered at the Uni Hall buffet along with the unique
ambience of the Dining Hall.

and then prepare for gastronomic delights !
